Run the call
before the call.

Apparatus pieces printed with your real unit IDs. Stick them on the station whiteboard, throw a scenario and work the first ten minutes as a crew, without leaving quarters.

One way to run it, not the way. Your department's SOPs win; argue about it at the kitchen table.

Made by a firefighter-paramedic who drills on a whiteboard every shift.

Every piece has its own outline, so an engine reads as an engine and a truck as a truck from across the kitchen, before anyone reads the number. Printed in small batches in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The pieces

Seven rigs.
Your numbers.

Basic colors so the type reads first: red for fire, white for EMS, blue for police, black for SWAT. The unit ID is raised on the roof in the contrast color.

How it works

Stick it. Throw a call.
Work it.

Good drills are reps of the first ten minutes: who goes where, who has water, who has command. A board and a set of pieces makes that a twenty-minute drill you can run after dinner.

01

Pick your units

Start with the Street Kit, or list your department's real apparatus: engines, trucks, chiefs, medic units, PD.

02

We print your IDs

Each piece is printed in two colors with its unit ID raised on the roof, then fitted with neodymium magnets glued flush with the base.

03

Drill on any steel board

One person reads the call. The crew places units and talks it through: arrival order, water supply, command, assignments. Reset and run it again.

The magnet, done right

  1. 8 × 3 mm N52 neodymium discs sit in a printed 8.4 × 3.4 mm pocket under each piece.
  2. Glued flush with CA gel, set face-down on steel so every magnet seats perfectly level.
  3. Same pole out on every piece, so pieces stacked in the box don't flip and snap together.
  4. Holds on a vertical board. Pieces weigh 2–5 g; one magnet holds them with plenty to spare, and trucks get two so they don't pivot.

FAQ

Questions

Will they stick to our whiteboard?

If it's a magnetic board, yes. Porcelain-on-steel and painted-steel boards (most station and command boards) hold them on a vertical surface. Melamine and aluminum-backed boards don't hold magnets at all. Quick test: if a fridge magnet sticks, these will.

What scale are they?

"Board scale." The big rigs are close to N scale (1:160). Smaller vehicles are a little oversized so their IDs stay readable from across the room. The point is a board you can read, not a model railroad.

Can you match our unit numbers?

That's the point. Type them into the kit builder. Up to 4 characters fit on every piece, 5 on engines, trucks and the SWAT van. Need a squad, brush rig, water tender or rescue? Put it in the notes; new types are on the bench.

Can we get different colors?

Launch colors are red/white for fire, white/red for EMS, blue/white for police and black/white for SWAT. If your engines are lime-yellow or your PD runs black-and-whites, say so in the notes.

Can our department pay by invoice or PO?

Put the PO number and billing contact in the notes and we'll invoice the department.

Are these toys?

No. They're training aids with strong neodymium magnets, which are dangerous if swallowed. Keep them away from children and pets.

Can I print them myself?

Yes. The Street Kit file pack has every piece as an STL and as a two-color 3MF, plus the print and magnet guide: one color-change height for every piece.

Is this affiliated with a department?

No. SIZE-UP is an independent maker. Pieces use no agency patches, Star of Life or manufacturer logos.
